Pure banana

Very refreshing, especially after being active.  Bananas help re-energize you, they also help with a bagel or toast for breakfast, before a run or bike ride.

Ingredients:

2 bananas, sliced
about a 1/2 cup of vanilla yogurt
2 teaspoons honey (to taste)
A tiny bit of cinnamon, depending on your preference

Did you know... Over 100 billion bananas are consumed each year
... Most Americans eat over 25 pounds of bananas
... Most widely consumed fruit in the U.S.A
... Bananas are the only fruit to contain Amino Acid, Tryptophan plus Vitamin B6?
... The combination of these ^ helps alleviate mental depression

Pomegranate and berries

Great smoothie... especially for breakfast.  Personally, I only like this for breakfast, I don't find it light enough for after a run or a bike ride.  Does that make sense? It is still a very healthy and filling recipe for a very healthy smoothie.

1 cup (frozen or fresh) mixed berries- ex. Raspberries, Blueberries, Blackberries, chopped Strawberries
1/2 Pomegranate Juice
1 banana
Little bit of water, or extra pomegranate juice

Have fun with this smoothie, add more/less berries, change amount of juice or banana... it is a fairly simple smoothie and you can change it around as much as you want.

Peach-Mango

I love this smoothie for a snack after work or school.  It is refreshing, and it is a great snack, especially after sports.
Here are the ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cup peach, frozen or fresh and cubed
  • 1/2 cup mango, frozen or fresh and cubed
  • 1 cup peach juice (usually marketed as Peach Cocktail Juice)
This smoothie has lots of fruit in it, so it is great for kids after they exercise.  Lots of juice too, so they stay hydrated.  This one is also great as a popsicle (see posts before), and I love the popsicle idea when kids come over to play.

Lots of berries

Hey guys!  here's one of my favourites; Lots of Berries smoothie

Here are the ingredients:
  • Handful of Blueberrries
  • Handful of Raspberries
  • Handful of blackberries
  • Around a half cup of cubed watermelon
  • 1/2 cup of pomegranate or cranberry juice

If you find there are too many ingredients or too big of a serving, taking out the watermelon doesn't affect the flavour too much.  I usually only include the watermelon for breakfast, just to make it more filling

Smoothies for kids

When kids don't eat their fruits, a smoothie is a very easy option.  And, smoothies can be made in to a very simple summer treat.

  • Simply put the smoothie in a plastic cup
  • Cover the cup with plastic wrap
  • Place a popsicle stick through the plastic wrap (the plastic wrap keeps it in place)
  • Put in freezer for 3 hours (at least)
Enjoy!!

Scrumptious Raspberry Smoothie

Good with pancakes... especially pancakes with strawberries or blueberries :)

Here are the ingredients:
  • 1 1/2 cup raspberries
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 cup vanilla yoguort
  • 1 banana
I love this, especially with breakfast

Cucumber-Melon Smoothie

One of my favourites.  This smoothie is super healthy and is great during spring or after being active; super refreshing.
Here are the ingredients:
  • 1/2 cup of cucumber, sliced, then half the slices
  • 1/2 cup of cantaloupe cubes
  • 1/2 cup of watermelon
  • Tiny squirt of lime juice (less than a teaspoon)
  • 1/4 cup water
If you find this is too much, cut down the amount of watermelon.

Strawberry Banana

Strawberry Banana.  One of the most common smoothies to be made.  But I personalized it a bit; for the yogurt, you don't have to do plain or vanilla, I add mixed berry or sometimes cherry.

Here are the ingredients, depending on the portion size, change to taste:
  • 1 banana (or 2 if you want less of a strawberry flavour)
  • 4-8 Strawberries, cut in to 4 pieces
  • 2 individually portioned yogurt cups, choose your flavour
  • 3/4 cup of mango juice
Blend until smooth.  Stir with a fork to feel for chunks.
